Laser engraved Thanksgiving Wine Glasses

I made about a dozen wine glasses as gifts for a Thanksgiving party. The images are from a quick Google search of "cornucopia," cleaned up in Photoshop and converted to a transparent GIF.

Flintlock cleaning session #2

The results of the second cleaning session: a lot of work with coarse and fine steel wool, a wire brush, and a buffing wheel.

The rust is gone from the exterior surfaces, but pitting remains, as I don't want to put these on a grinding wheel.

Flintlocks!

I started the restoration of a pair of replica Revolutionary War flintlocks with Chuck on Sunday. They had a lot more rust and pitting on them than I remembered from my initial inspection. Storage in cloth bags for the last twenty years wicked away most of the protective oil. Fortunately the insides of the barrels are not pitted or damaged -- and they're smoothbores, not rifles.

We disassembled one homebuilt rifle from its Springfield stock and started work. An hour of steel wool and sandpaper gave middling results on the exterior of the barrel and the retaining rings.

Possible CNC training project?

Since I'm done with the Techno Router SBU (and taking the ShopBot SBU tonight) I'll need some practice on the machines -- and 3D software.

We machined a small (about 2 cu. in.) 3D form out of blue foam on the Techno router, which had a good amount of detail with smooth surfaces.

Welding SBU

I took the TIG Welding SBU at TechShop today. It went well, but I'll need some more practice before taking the Level 2 class that handles joins. Fortunately the TIG welder schedule looks pretty clear.

Also about half-done with a few Corel Draw plans for more laser-cut items. Time to pick up more scrap @ TAP.
