Imperial Guard: Facesmash with Bubblewrap

I'd need a Banewolf + scratchbuilt vehicles to run this. Retains a PCS + 20 guys with ACs to bubblewrap vehicles.

HEAVY SUPPORT

Lamenters : Who's cryin' now?

Here's a chunk of the Lamenters, in the middle of a Purity Seal treatment.

The circles at the bottom are laser-cut, hand-painted objective markers. I also made other copies in smoke-colored acrylic, as well as ones for Imperial Guard, Ultramarines, and Chaos.

I've also finished weathering and customizing two rhinos.

Here's the Rhinos with a couple of occupants, along with their new-style shoulder emblems.

Warhammer 40K Skirmish?

I'm thinking about rules possibilities for a homebrew skirmish game in the 40k universe. The bulk of the rules and points would come from the current 40K rulebook and codices.

Some ideas:

  • Denormalized movement (every figure doesn't move 6").
  • Average game: 160 points, hard cap @ 300 points. Figure base cost must be 100 points or less.
  • No vehicles (except as terrain / scenario objectives). Monstrous creatures, dreads, &c allowed as special opponents (i.e. a single Wraithlord.)

Flea Market deals

Picked up a few deals:

  • Imperial Guard Leman Russ tanks (including one unprimed) and Basilisk @ $5 each
  • Entire Grey Knights squad, tabletop quality painted, for $10
  • Most of an Armorcast resin ruined cathedral for $10.

Also, for future flea market vendors: most paint jobs and assembly jobs are below tabletop quality. $20+ for a splotchy paint job on a Chimera is too damn much.

Fun with Lasers

Now that I've got a TechShop membership, I'm no longer constrained by my lack of a garage and limited equipment.

Here's my first hour's work on the Epilog 45W laser cutter / engraver:

A lot of wargame add-ons are simple designs -- excellent for practice.

  • Vehicle status tokens in paper (test)
  • Vehicle status tokens in acrylic
  • Smoke markers in acrylic
  • Chaos painting and detail stencils in cardstock.
  • Checkerboard stencil in cardstock.

Monday night's game

No games Sunday due to some Pokemon rollout.

I had a fun game (my Marines vs. Imperial Guard) and learned a lot. It was an objective game with deployment to opposite table quarters.

My opponent's list:

- CCS w/4 GL in Chimera
- 3x Melta Vet squads in Chimeras
- 2x Melta Vet squads in Vendettas
- 2x Leman Russ Punisher
- 2x Armored Sentinels with AC

We weren't tailoring, so I used the same list I had used against the Orks -- 1500 points.

- 3 Tac squads in rhinos with mixes of special weapons
- LR Redeemer with Cassius, 2x LC Termies, 3x TH/SS Termies
- Vindicator

Imperial Guard / Red Harvest Test

Played a trial of the Red Harvest scenario, as well as my first time with my traitor Imperial Guard force.

Some notes:

* A three player game takes much longer than a two player game.
* Depending on the number of intact buildings, it might be better to adjust the target number of civilians.

My mistakes playing the guard:

* The senior officer in the Company Command can also use the junior officer orders, like Front Rank fire ... I didn't use the CCS orders much, which was a waste.

The Gentleman's Game?

Is a thousand-point Cities of Death game the ultimate 40K experience?

The advantages:

  • Easier to collect, assemble, and paint 1000 (or maybe 1500, if you want a lot of options) of troops, instead of the 2000 - 2500 for a sizeable 40K army.
  • Grittier battles that don't offer ridiculous lanes of fire. Different from the fights on open tabletops which are better suited to Warhammer Fantasy or other games without long range, insta-kill weapons.
  • Stratagems!
