Space Marines

Info about the Lamenters Chapter of the Space Marines including paint schemes and army lists.

Old Time Religion: Lamenters Chaplain

A power-armored Chaplain for the Lamenters Space Marines.

I tried some new techniques for the gold -- a basecoat of Tin Bitz, black wash, Shining Gold highlights, sepia wash, and a a gloss coat on top.

A Red Marine!

I decided to try a test miniature of another Blood Angels successor chapter, the Blood Drinkers.

These guys are red with yellow trim.

First, the start: Army Painter Colour Primer on one of my AOBR Marines.

WIP: Lamenters Razorback 2

The Cor Semper Fidele after washes, drybrushes, and weathering powder.

Front of the "Always-Faithful Heart"

New techniques:

  • Sponged on Charadon Granite, which works great for paint chips and general damage.
  • Forgeworld Black Soot weathering powder around the exhausts. Better results than a black wash.
  • Forgeworld Light Earth powder on the tracks, mixed with turpentine substitute ("white spirit"). Good for general mud.

WIP: Lamenters Razorback

In progress: the Razorback Cor Semper Fidele "Always-Faithful Heart", for the Lamenters Chapter Space Marines.

Standard basecoat: Army Painter Daemonic Yellow over a thin coat of white primer. In this state they're pretty much a Schoolbus of Death.

I've done some detail work. Masking those larger checkerboards is tedious, but produces a clean look with a little clean-up on the edges. The door is one of my custom Lamenters Chapter designs, engraved and cut on an Epilog laser machine at TechShop.

Lamenters Space Marines: Assault Marine

Lamenters Assault Marine.

Here's the test model for some Assault Marines (guys with jetpacks). I used more highlighting and tried to be careful about the areas of sepia wash over yellow.

Note: photos are about 250% enlargements (the figure is 30mm tall).

Lamenters : Who's cryin' now?

Here's a chunk of the Lamenters, in the middle of a Purity Seal treatment.

The circles at the bottom are laser-cut, hand-painted objective markers. I also made other copies in smoke-colored acrylic, as well as ones for Imperial Guard, Ultramarines, and Chaos.

I've also finished weathering and customizing two rhinos.

Here's the Rhinos with a couple of occupants, along with their new-style shoulder emblems.

Results of the braindead marine force

Currently 0-2, although one could be a tie.

That 1850 force was designed as a run-of-the-mill mech Marine list. The braindead parts:

  • One Land Raider, instead of two (or none) @ 1850 points.
  • Only one HQ @ 1850 ... and Cassius instead of Lysander.
  • A single Vindicator ... not good. Truly a hit-or-miss proposition. In one game it only proved useful for immobilizing a rhino and exploding inside enemy lines.
  • A mix of LC and TH/SS Assault Terminators instead of all-TH/SS.

The good stuff -- "general cheese":

The 1850 Braindead Marine Force

A generic, mechanized force.

HQ: Cassius

- Tactical Squad with 10 marines, meltagun and heavy bolter, PF sarge, dedicated Rhino
- Tactical Squad with 10 marines, flamer and missile launcher, PF sarge, dedicated Rhino
- Tactical Squad with 10 marines, meltagun and lascannon, PF sarge, dedicated Rhino
- Scout squad with CCW and heavy bolter, all with camo cloaks and PF sarge

- Land Speeder with HB, Multi-melta

Elites:

Lamenters Cityfight scene

A combat squad of the Lamenters prepare to defend a ruined Sanctum Imperialis.

Detail work on the buildings, such as drybrushing the zillion little Grim Skulls of the Dark Future, takes forever.

Lamenters Dreadnought

Brother Herod, a Dreadnought of the Lamenters Space Marines.
