48 hour painting log

This weekend:

* Space Marine Sergeant
* 2x Space Marines
* Traitor Guard Sergeant
* 3x Traitor Guardsmen

A lot of experimenting with this set.

Today's painting log

Weathering and detail work on:

- Leman Russ Demolisher
- Chimera

with a lot of ideas and techniques from the "Painting Citadel Tanks" book.

- Completing base of my dead Dark Angels Captain objective

- Tested Vallejo Paint's Transparent Yellow as suggested by Bryce

- Completed one Tac Marine with full details

- Base colors on two other Space Marine casualty objectives

Valkyries over Kraplakistan!

A pair of renegade Imperial Guard Valkyries skim over the slums.

Sure, they're just AV12 skimmers, but they look cool!

Imperial Guard / Red Harvest Test

Played a trial of the Red Harvest scenario, as well as my first time with my traitor Imperial Guard force.

Some notes:

* A three player game takes much longer than a two player game.
* Depending on the number of intact buildings, it might be better to adjust the target number of civilians.

My mistakes playing the guard:

* The senior officer in the Company Command can also use the junior officer orders, like Front Rank fire ... I didn't use the CCS orders much, which was a waste.

Some IG inspiration

Check out these sweet Imperial Guard Weapons Teams. I like how the Imperial Sector terrain bits were mixed in. I'll steal some ideas from this.

The Gentleman's Game?

Is a thousand-point Cities of Death game the ultimate 40K experience?

The advantages:

  • Easier to collect, assemble, and paint 1000 (or maybe 1500, if you want a lot of options) of troops, instead of the 2000 - 2500 for a sizeable 40K army.
  • Grittier battles that don't offer ridiculous lanes of fire. Different from the fights on open tabletops which are better suited to Warhammer Fantasy or other games without long range, insta-kill weapons.
  • Stratagems!
